22 Q's with Lauren Wilson

In this edition of 22 Qs, we sat down with the wildly talented Lauren Wilson — founder of Timberlost and mood-maker extraordinaire. From dream dinner parties (with a side of fish and chips), to stalking 1960s Missoni, to defending carnations as a top-tier flower (hot take, we know), Lauren serves insight and style in equal measure.

1. What are your favourite and least favourite nicknames to be called?

A select few call me Timber.

The rest are private ;)

2. If you could have an incredible beach, mountain, or city view, what would you choose and why?

I’m a true beach girl at heart. Salt water, a tan, sun, LIFE!

3. You have 60 minutes more in your day than everyone else. How do you use it?

That depends, is everyone else frozen?

In that case I’d probably try and access secret CIA case files to answer if aliens exist, or not. They do, right?

4. What’s the worst karaoke song, and why? Best?

I love singing country songs. The worst? Country songs, haha.

5. What’s been your favourite gift to give? Receive?

I love gifting and receiving anything homemade. Knowing someone put thought and effort into making something truly unique is the absolute best.

6. What are you the best at?

I think I’m best at creating moods and atmospheres with flowers and objects.

7. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

That I was industrious.

8. What’s your go-to movie theatre snack & drink combo?

Peanut m&m’s, popcorn and gingerale.

9. What’s the one thing that makes your morning routine complete?

Coffee and moisturizer. Can’t live without them.

10. What is your favourite song to cook to?

I usually gravitate towards anything jazzy and snazzy.

11. Imagine your dream dinner party. You can invite anyone, serve anything, and invite anyone. Where is it?

My dad passed away a few years ago so I would invite him and make him fish and chips in true Scottish fashion. I’d probably hold it at my cottage with the rest of my family and catch him up on the state of the world.

12. Who on the internet do you stalk?

I don’t stalk who’s, I stalk what’s. Mainly certain items on Marketplace for my cottages.

13. What’s something in your wardrobe you bought randomly that’s since become a keystone piece?

I recently found a vintage Prada brown suede jacket and I love it so much. It was tucked away in a tiny vintage store in Warkworth Ontario. It was on sale and the kind of garment that will be a staple forever.

14. If you could relive a single year in your life — experiencing it again without changing your future — which year would it be and why?

If I could experience it as the adult I am now, I’d want to time travel back to when I was 5. I think it would be fascinating to observe my younger self in creative situations. I’ve always been drawn to creating art so I’d be curious to see what I gravitated towards and how it all began.

15. What internet rabbit hole have you gone down recently?

1960’s Missoni.

16. What’s the pettiest reason someone has turned you off? (Romantically or platonically.)

17. What are some of your greatest life tools?

Stay present, stay humble, stay true.

18. How do you define taste? What makes "good" taste?

Good taste is intentional, personal and effortless. It’s a considered and inviting approach to your style, interiors. It’s also a way of relating to others and enhancing experiences for those around you.

19. Name a celebrity encounter where you had no chill?

I once saw John Hamm in a bar in LA. We made eye contact, no big deal ;) I don’t really get excited over celebrities though. OK fine I might have had a tinge of excitement when I saw him.

20. Someone is making you a dessert. What do you ask for?

Sticky toffee pudding, forever.

21. What’s an unpopular opinion you stand by?

Carnations are a luxe flower.

22. How do you break out of a creative slump?

A walk in nature clears my mind to make way for new ideas. Nature is my muse so a walk usually brings me back to the core essence of Timberlost. Noticing the minute details of a certain flower or the gesture of a large pine bough always makes me want to rush back to my studio. Also traveling. I love experiencing how other cultures live, make and create. I try and get away when I can, it always inspires me.
